Youâve heard it a hundred times â if youâre not growing, youâre dying. And if this statement ever was true, it is simply no longer reality. Life IS about growth, but itâs not ALL about growth. We search incessantly for the reasons behind the tragedy... we ask âWHY?â This might give joy, might not. Knowing the reason is NOT âFinding Joy.' Joy is not just a fact, it is a person. Phil 4:7 promises the peace that passes understanding ... beyond facts, knowledge, and reason!
I used to like roller coasters, but last summer, I got off of a roller coaster and didnât care if I ever rode one again or not. Up. Down. Up. Down. Round and round. Then we exited right where we got on. Itâs too much like life. Life is full of ups and downs, yet most of the action is an illusion and we end very close to where we began.
God often leads His people into situations that do not make sense to us. His ways are not always logical. Our perspective usually includes the shortest distance between two points, while God plans for the best route from an eternal perspective. After God had delivered Israel from Egypt, He led them right into a trap. They were penned in by the mountains, the desert, and the sea; this was not a reasonable strategy of escape. But God knew exactly what would happen, and this is exactly where Israel needed to be for reasons they would only understand later. God did not need their assistance, only their obedience. He was in total control and only needed their surrender for His plan to work perfectly (Ex. 14).
